Bachmann Construction’s design-build project at Edgerton Community Outreach is a transformative effort aimed at revitalizing one of Edgerton’s oldest buildings into a vibrant community asset. Originally constructed in 1854, the building was in severe disrepair when construction began in September 2023. Structural issues were more extensive than anticipated, requiring nearly every component on each floor to be torn down and rebuilt. One of the most complex challenges involved raising the building’s structural components by 8–10 inches—a delicate process that demanded precise shoring.
The first floor has been reimagined as a multifunctional space. It now houses The Freedom Kitchen, a fully commercial kitchen named in honor of Ilir Banushi, a beloved community figure. The Freedom Kitchen is a fully commercial kitchen equipped with professional-grade appliances. It was built from the ground up as part of the first-floor overhaul by Bachmann Construction, which included removing hazardous materials, filling structural voids, and expanding the space toward the neighboring teen center. The kitchen will serve as the headquarters for Edgerton Community Outreach’s hunger relief programs. Additionally, this floor includes new office and storage spaces and will serve as a meeting venue for VFW Post #2708 and other community events.
The second and third floors have been redesigned to include six residential units—each floor featuring a studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom ADA-accessible apartment. Before construction, these floors were unsafe and unsalvageable, requiring complete demolition and removal of hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead.
This project not only preserves a historic structure but also provides essential services and housing for veterans and community members, reflecting Edgerton Community Outreach’s mission to foster hope and support through innovative redevelopment.
The renovated building at 210 West Fulton Street, operated by Edgerton Community Outreach (ECO), will host a variety of community programs that reflect its mission to support individuals and families in need. This multi-use facility is designed to be a hub for hope and healing, combining emergency relief, long-term housing, and community-building under one roof.
