Assistant Project Manager
Job Description
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or Technical College degree in relevant area with recommendations
- 1 -2 years of relevant construction experience, or degree/classes specifically in Construction Project Management
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite of software applications (Word, Excel, Project, Powerpoint) or equivalent
- Proficient use of drafting/CAD software appreciated (SketchUp, Revit)
Overview of Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for assisting Project Managers with accurate and competitive estimating and execution of contract proposals. This requires excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills. Ultimately, Assistant Project Managers are responsible for supporting and learning from Project Managers all the skills and processes necessary to acquire, execute, document, communicate, and close out projects of all sizes and complexities. Components of this responsibility are categorized in the following elements:
Business Networking:
- Participate in professional organizations/trade shows/conferences as a representative of Bachmann Construction.
- Maintain contact with: past customers, prospects, architects, developers, real estate agents, businesses and home owners, etc.
Project Acquisition:
- Assist Project Managers with the project estimates and contract proposals
- Attend Pre-bid and proposal meetings with potential clients
- Assist in the development of formal contracts, proposals, and bids
Project Execution:
Assist Project Managers in the execution of the following components of Project Management:
Project Communication
- Provide Foremen/Superintendent Orientation
- Assist in the development, communication, and execution of project scheduling
- Assist in the coordination, and communication of internal labor schedules and subcontractor schedules
- Order materials/equipment delivery and/or equipment rentals as needed
Project Documentation
- Assist with contracts, proposals, communications, meeting minutes, inter-office documents
- Project start up documents / checklist
- Review all Shop drawings
- Submittals, Change Orders, Expense Reports, Commission Requests, RFI’s, CB’s etc. – all to be completed in a timely manner
- Project budget tracking
Field Execution
- Oversee the execution of multiple projects.
- Ensure Quality and Service to clients.
- Acquire Permits and applications as requested by Project Manager.
Project Safety
- Ensure each job site is provided with all necessary safety equipment specifically needed for each job.
- Encourage (and attend when possible) weekly Toolbox Talks
- Assist Safety Director with complete compliance with Bachmann Construction’s Construction Safety Program
Project Closeout
- Participate in the debriefing of project
Bachmann Team Contributions
Office Communication and Coordination Activities
- Serve as a member on one or more of the Bachmann Construction internal teams (examples: PM Team, Marketing Team, Grounds and Maintenance Team, etc.) Communicate regularly with all other operating departments to assure good working relationships in the pursuit and achievement of companywide goals.
- Coordinate activities closely with other staff members on policies and procedures, budget, and financial goals. Strive for enhanced communication, effectiveness, and continuity.
- Assist in formulating and revising other company wide business policies and procedures as requested. Meet regularly with staff to enhance communications and handle significant or non-routine problems, questions, or approvals.
- Maintain a positive, friendly atmosphere among company personnel. We all prefer a pleasant working environment.
- Other duties or special projects as requested.
