McKay Center

Madison, WI 10,000 Sq. Ft. Addition To Existing Environmental Center With Structural Steel, Precast Concrete, Cast In Place Concrete And Wood Framing As Designed By Taliesen Architects
Led by Chris Quandt, Bachmann Construction was selected as the General Contractor for the McKay Center, which was one of the first green projects contracted by the State of Wisconsin. For the Arboretum's McKay Visitors Center, environmentally responsible expansion was a must. In ordering stone, native Wisconsin limestone was suggested by Chris Quandt and accepted in lieu of stone from areas outside Wisconsin's borders. Cherry trim and cedar siding used on the project were certified lumber, indicating that the wood was selectively harvested and not from old growth forests. A rain garden was created and rain water from the roof and parking lot directed towards it to help minimize water run off. Photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof.
